How to Manually Remove X•over 3 Pro

Normally, X•over 3 Pro can be removed by running the Add/Remove applet in the Windows Control Panel. However, there are rare occasions when you may need to manually remove the program. For example, if your computer loses power while X•over Pro is being installed, it is possible that the installation could be incomplete and the Add/Remove applet may produce an error message when you attempt to remove it. This is a problem because the incomplete installation should be removed before attempting to install the program a second time.

Manually removing X•over Pro from your computer is not for the faint-hearted. It involves manually editing the Windows registry. We recommend this technique only for advanced users and we strongly recommend that you backup your registry files before attempting to make any changes.

Here are the steps to manually remove X•over Pro:

  1. If you have created X•over Pro design files that you want to save, move them to a separate folder outside of the X•over ("HT-Audio") folder now. If you have made changes to the driver database which you want to keep, move it (file "htaudio.mdb") also.

  2.
  3. Delete the X•over Pro folder and all of its contents, including all folders inside it (such as the "Designs" and "Acoustic" folders). If the default settings were used during the installation, the X•over Pro folder will be "c:\Program Files\HT-Audio".

  4.
  5. Delete the X•over Pro shortcut in the "Start" menu. This is done by right-clicking on it in the "Start" menu and selecting "Delete" from the pop-up menu.

  6.
  7. Delete all references to X•over Pro from the Windows registry. To do this, first run "Regedit", the Windows registry editor. This is done by selecting "Run" from the Start menu, entering "regedit" and clicking on the "OK" button. Begin by backing up the registry. This is done by selecting "Export Registry File..." from the Registry menu. Next, search the registry for all occurrences of "X·over" and delete them. IMPORTANT: There are different ways to create a "bullet" or dot (such as "•" and "·"). In the Windows registry, the bullet between the "X" and "o" in "X·over" must be entered by holding down the Alt key and pressing 0183 (Alt+0183). For example, type X[Alt+0183]over (ignoring the brackets and plus sign). To begin the search choose "Find" from the Edit menu or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+F. Enter "X·over" in the "Find What" box and begin the search. Continue the search with the keyboard shortcut F3 or select "Find Next" from the Edit menu until all occurrences of X•over have been found and deleted.

X•over Pro should now be deleted. We do not suggest that you delete any system files because they may be needed by other Windows programs.
